Notes on the software package¶
Introduction¶
The product PROCON-WEB from Weidmüller GTI Software GmbH is the result of the consistent continuing development of the process visualization PROCON-WIN that has been established for years. The decisive difference between these two visualization solutions is the web-based support in PROCON-WEB in contrast to the graphical user interface MS-Windows in PROCON-WIN.

PROCON-WEB – widely scalable, platform-independent solution¶
A key unique selling proposition of PROCON-WEB is the broad scalability of the system from simple HMI applications to complex SCADA solutions. The optimal platforms can be used in each case. PROCON-WEB runs on inexpensive embedded systems as well as on powerful virtualised and highly available servers.
Scalability¶
The scalability is limited by the license and by the hardware used. Basically, the following aspects can be scaled:- Number of usable tags (data points that are used in the project)- Number of clients (here we differ between full-fledged clients and clients that can display a maximum of 5 images (e.g., smartphone surface)- Functionality (which is given on the one hand by the specific characteristics of the server variant, but can also be expanded using options: OPC server, machine time calculation, …)”In addition to the number of items, the scaling is decisive for determining an appropriate license price, which also considers the total price of the customer product (device or machine or system).
Platforms¶
PROCON-WEB has a very broad scalability and can run on different platforms (targets). The following table shows the range of systems available today. Within this documentation, topics that are valid for SCADA (Windows version) are indicated with a hint in the chapter heading. Topics / functions that are only implemented in the IoT variant are also indicated in the chapter heading.

Uniform project planning¶
The same designer is always used for all applications. He receives the activation of different targets via license information. All project information is stored in the same format, which means that applications can be easily used on other targets. This means that simple surfaces on embedded targets can be transferred directly to the higher-level SCADA system, or the same basic application can be used for simple and complex machines.
Designer can be customised¶
The PROCON-WEB Designer can also be adapted to the specific requirements of an OEM customer. This includes a different naming with adapted splash screens and documentation and customer-specific project templates and target configurations.An easy-to-use Commando API enables integration into specific system environments with automated data import and export. We can advise you in detail about the full range of options!
Versions of the Designer¶
The PROCON-WEB Designer is available in several versions. This is basically the same software, with the following differences:
PROCON-WEB Designer: Full version with MS SQL database as an independent installation and with the option of supporting various targets. Support of the full SCADA bandwidth (with PROCON-WEB Server for Windows).
PROCON-WEB Embedded Systems Designer: Reduced version with integrated SQL function and can only be activated for PROCON-WEB Embedded Systems (no SCADA applications). In addition, the management of layouts and the use of containers are blocked.
Depending on the version or the currently selected target, the user interface in the Designer is reduced to the functions that can be used. This has effects in the object tree, but also in the specific function assignment for a control (e.g., no script call possible).”For embedded devices, different user interfaces can be displayed for project transfer that consider the functions of the various targets.
Demo and test packages¶
A demo package basically runs without copy protection, in the Designer with a greatly reduced quantity structure and in the runtime system with a time limit of one hour (each time after restart).
To be able to test both systems without restrictions, the GTI offers a test dongle for a limited period, which can be made available on request.
Guarantee information¶
Weidmüller GTI Software GmbH guarantees the buyer that the data carriers, under normal use, are free from material and production defects for a period of six months from the date of purchase. However, if an error occurs within this period, please send the data carrier back to Weidmüller GTI Software GmbH. Provided you also send us proof of purchase, you will receive a replacement free of charge.
Any implicit guarantees regarding the data carriers or the software documentation regarding the merchantable quality and suitability for a particular purpose are limited to the six-month guarantee (from the date of purchase). GTI assumes no liability for indirect damage or damage resulting from the use of the product.
